5. APPLICATION
Preparatory Work: Concrete casting slab must be CLEAN, DRY AND FREE FROM CONTAMINANTS. If drum has set for more than one month, some mixing of the drum contents is desirable.

Methods: Apply Crete-Trete 309-VOC Cure & Seal to the fresh and finished concrete. Allow it to dry.  Mix the Crete-Lease "Bond Breaker". Spray apply first coat of "Bond Breaker" at 400 sq ft/gal. Allow to dry. (See Notes 1 and 2.) Apply second coat at a right angle (perpendicular) to the original coat and at 400 sq ft/gal. Allow to dry. (See Notes 1 and 2.) Crete-Lease "Bond Breaker" dries to a transparent blue wax-like coating.

Removal: High pressure water, approximately 1,000 psi (7,000 kPa) or higher, removes dried Crete-Lease "Bond Breaker".  If water is hot, removal is faster.

Notes:
1.  Proper drying is critical.  Hot days, wind and or porous concrete contribute to quick drying.  When dried properly the film is obviously continuous (no cracking or flaking, etc.) and the surface feels waxy, but not sticky.  Test by seeing if water will bead on it.  The best test, however, is to see if you can scrape off small bits of the film with your fingernail.

2.  Drying depends on temperature and humidity. At 70°F and about 50% relative humidity, you want Crete-Lease "Bond Breaker" to dry in about 30 minutes.  All water based coatings take much longer to "dry" when the ambient weather is near the dew point or the humidity is very high.  Can take as long as two hours to dry when humidity is very high.

3.  If the "Bond Breaker" is improperly dried (cured) you will observe one or all of the following:  chalking (the blue will wipe off), dusting, flaking and maybe a sticky film.  If "sticky" is the only observation then allow a little extra time for drying.

4.  If film is drying too fast (20 minutes or less) and/or you observe chalking, dusting and/or flaking, then pre-moisten, by fogging with water, the concrete base.  Be sure there is no standing water...do not apply "Bond Breaker" over puddled water.

5.  A Proper application can occur when the "Bond Breaker" does not bead as it is being applied.  It should spray on with a continuous film.  If beading occurs, it may be caused by the "Bond Breaker" and cure film not being compatible.  Please note that a continuous film is required to get a good application, but it is not the only factor for producing flawless tilt-up panels.

6.  A dense surfaced slab is best for doing tilt-up.  Many factors, including good troweling and curing, contribute to a dense or tight (non-porous) surface.  Helpful tips include getting the cure on immediately after troweling.

7.  Casting surfaces cured with polyethylene, paper or water may not be as dense or tight on the surface as properly troweled concrete.  When applying "Bond Breaker" to these surfaces, fogging water onto the concrete casting surface just before applying the "Bond Breaker" is required.  Do not apply "Bond Breaker" over puddled or standing water.

8.  Broomed or textured concrete casting slabs require heavier applications of "Bond Breaker".  Apply "Bond Breaker" in several regular applications...not one thick application.  Apply "Bond Breaker" in the direction of the texture; for example, if the broom strokes go north and south, then apply the "Bond Breaker" in the same direction.  However, stand on the "east" side for the first north-south application, then stand on the "west" side for the second north-south application.
